The autoimmune disease is when the immune system of the patient mistakenly attacks healthy cells, tissues and organs. Autoimmune diseases are mostly chronic and may include periods of painful and inflammatory reactions. Physiotherapy may help to relieve these symptoms, if the bones, joints and muscles are affected, with use of physical media (electrotherapy, ultrasound, laser) and cryotherapy. The main aim of physiotherapy intervention, is to help the patient remain functional and mobile by applying stretching exercises and mobilization techniques to increase the flexibility of the muscle groups surrounding the affected joints and using assistive devices that further promote mobility.
