The paraplegia and quadriplegia are forms of paralysis of the limbs of the patient. The fault can be located in the cervical, thoracic, or lumbar spine which results in the motor dysfunction of the individual. The disability can be temporary or permanent depending on the extent and location of the lesion. The main aim of the physiotherapist is to restore muscle strength in the affected limbs, and help the patient regain his ability to stand and walk. The restoration of motor functions and life skills of a paraplegic or a quadriplegic patient should be treated in a versatile and customised manner by a physiotherapist in collaboration with an occupational therapist.
